Vaping and Substance Misuse Information Session with The Corner
You will be aware that there was a serious medical incident in school earlier in the month linked to vaping, possibly of an illegal substance. Across the country, the prevalence of vaping in young people has grown significantly and this it has been reported widely through the media, as have similar incidents. For example: BBC News
The Corner is a Sheffield based organisation that works with young people to support them with issues such as vaping, drug use and substance misuse - The Corner. They are independent of the school and as well as directly supporting young people they also provide information and guidance for parents and families.
The Corner is holding an information session for Stocksbridge High School parents and carers at 5.00pm on Monday 4 December 2023. The session will last no more than an hour and will be aninvaluable source of information, including:
• The prevalence of vaping amongst young people.
• Education & awareness around vaping including illicit use.
• Why do young people use drugs?
• How to speak with young people about drug use.
• What are the warning signs? When should we be concerned?
• Support available at The Corner.
• Questions and answers.
This session follows on from a series of assemblies for all students from The Corner that will be held throughout the day covering the same themes. If you can make the evening, I strongly encourage you to come along as it should be an invaluable source of information and provide you with an opportunity to ask questions. This session is for adults and there is no expectation that your children should attend.
In order for us to provide sufficient seating for the event, I would be grateful if you would confirm your intention to attend by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org, with the email heading The Corner by 3.00pm Friday 1 December 2023.
