Y11 GCSE Results Day 2020
20 August 2020
Dear Y11 Student,
Firstly, we would like to congratulate you on completing your secondary education at Stocksbridge High School. We hope the results you have received today reflect the time you have spent with us and will enable you to progress onto the next stage of your education. We understand how unsettling the last few months have been for you and especially the recent press coverage around the grading of exam results. We are here to help you in any way we can. Please read all the information accompanying your results and do not hesitate to contact us if you need any support. Further information and documentation can be found on the school website.
Even though grades have been awarded differently this year, they will look the same as any other year on the results slips and your certificates. The grades you receive today are a combination of your centre-assessment grades (CAGs) and those generated by the Ofqual algorithm. For all your GCSE subjects you have been awarded the higher grade of the two. In BTEC Subjects you have been awarded the generated grade. Please note that if you are receiving a grade for an OCR National qualification (I-Media or Health and Social Care) then this is just the CAG. We will receive your confirmed grade on 25 August and if it is improved on your CAG we will let you know and re-issue your results slip.
We will put an overview of how CAGs have been calculated on the website and have also included one in your pack. Please note that CAGs were generated by an extensive whole school moderation and standardisation process and they are not simply the predictions of your individual teachers. We have also worked with schools in the Minerva Learning Trust to improve rigour and consistency.
Due to the recent changes, we have not yet been informed of final details of the appeals process. We believe that as a school we will be able to appeal in cases of administrative error only. Additionally, if you are unhappy with the grade you have received, you have the option to re-sit the exam in the Autumn. We will update our website with further details when this process becomes clearer.
If you have any questions after receiving your results, please email the school on firstname.lastname@example.org with the subject heading “GCSE 2020 query” and we will respond as soon as possible. Please do not contact individual members of staff directly.
On behalf of all the Stocksbridge High School staff, I would like to take this opportunity to wish you all the very best for the future.
