Co-opted Governor

I have been a co-opted member of Stocksbridge High School Governing body for several years. After teaching in Sheffield schools I became a School Improvement Officer with Calderdale Local Authority and later a Secondary School Adviser with Sheffield Local Authority. In this latter role I was involved with Stocksbridge High School in my professional capacity for several years and I still maintain the same high expectations for children and young people, supporting them to love learning and to achieve at the highest level.

Co-opted Governor

I have a good knowledge and strong links with Stocksbridge High School having lived in the community all my life. I attended the school myself, my 2 children gained their education here and after a career in industry and being self-employed, I worked as Buildings Supervisor at the school for 9 years before my retirement.

I have had the privilege of representing the Stocksbridge and Upper Don ward on Sheffield City Council for almost four years, and have served on the Governing Body of Stocksbridge High School for almost as long. I have also been a member of Stocksbridge Town Council since May 2015, and have worked for our local Member of Parliament for the last six years.

Jo Stavert-Dobson

Co-Opted Governor

I joined the Governing Body in October 2021. I have a passion for the continued development and improvement of the school and strongly believe in the importance of a high quality education for all. I am a parent of two students currently at Stocksbridge High School and I feel that parents and carers must feel confident their children will thrive here and receive a first-class teaching, learning, pastoral and extra-curricular experience during their time at SHS. As a Governor, I am looking forward to working with the school to support and develop this to its full potential.

My professional background is in Primary Education and its wider fields. I worked in the Environmental and Heritage Education Sector for 14 years, working extensively with schools, teachers and within the local communities. I remained at home to support my children through their early and primary years and more recently have been working as Co-Director of our two growing family companies.

Parent Governor

It's with great pleasure that I am able to share my experience of working as a secondary school teacher and leader for the last 21 years as well as my 10 years experience as a primary school governor at Royd Nursery Infant School in Deepcar.
In this challenging world that we find ourselves in, it is more important than ever to have governors involved at Stocksbridge High School that are experienced, supportive and are able to hold the school to account over the issues that face the school, teachers and pupils on a daily basis. As a parent governor I am able to support the school and look forward to working with the school for years to come.

I recently became a member of the SHS Governing Body in December 2022 and look forward to making an active and worthwhile contribution to the school. Throughout my working life, I have been involved in education as a teacher, senior leader and Headteacher having worked in the primary, middle and secondary phases in both urban and rural schools. I have also experience as a Section 47 Ofsted Inspector and as a diocesan school advisor in supporting both secondary and primary schools.

Until my retirement in September 2022 I have been involved with Leeds Children’s Services leading a service supporting primary and special school Headteachers.
I also currently serve as a governor at Oxspring Primary school.

Nicola West

Parent Governor

Firstly I would like to say how proud I am to represent you as a parent governor at our school.

I have been a school governor for the last 5 years at my daughter’s previous school and since she began her journey at SHS I was keen to continue being a part of the decisions that affect not only hers but all of our children’s futures.

The experience I have gained over the last 5 years will I hope be of assistance to the school and I look forward to contributing and helping drive the school forward for all our benefits.
